About the Event

Programmed by Ruth Gebreyesus and Ryanaustin Dennis

Jocelyn Jackson, founder of JUSTUS Kitchen and cofounder of People’s Kitchen Collective, will begin her presentation with a song. Amid a beautiful display of jarred Kitchen Remedies, she will guide participants through an inquiry into the recipes and ingredients that support their health and well-being. Using the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense as an example, we will also discuss the pathways to healing social ills.

Jocelyn Jackson’s passion for seasonal food, social justice, creativity, and community is rooted in a childhood spent on the Kansas plains. Her family would always sing a song before sharing a soulful meal. Jocelyn founded JUSTUS Kitchen and cofounded People’s Kitchen Collective to continue to create food experiences that inspire people to reconnect with themselves, the earth, and one another, with the goal of collective liberation. And she still begins every meal with a song.
